The story of Paul Barris is L.A.’s proof-of-concept. He was one of my roommates in college and a close friend of mine. An only son to an immigrant who went from grind to success in competitive dancing, but didn’t have an easy start. The world can be an intimidating place, but Pablo used dancing as his way out of feeling repressed by society. He also knew dancing helps your mental health. In order to get over obstacles, he enrolled in dance classes. He took ballroom, to help him become a well-rounded individual. Today, Paul shares the stage with such artists as Andrea Bocelli, and Ozuna, in front of thousands of fans.

Sometimes people don’t know where to turn because of their problems, but talking about them is the first step. Putting it into action by taking dance classes can make a world of difference.

There are physical benefits too—dancing helps keep your muscles flexible.” As Paul says: “I grew up in a country where people spoke more than just English.” He also added “and it gave me an opportunity to meet new friends who spoke different languages.”
